Junior

VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Michigan -- When Anette Hetzer called The Flint Journal after her family's dog was mistakenly euthanized at the Genesee County Animal Control, she never expected all the attention that came with telling her story.

More than 125 comments were posted in response to the story on The Journal's Web site and the story of Junior the black lab was retold on television and radio and on newspaper Web sites around the country.

Some readers have supported the Hetzers and expressed sympathy to the family while others criticized them for allowing Junior to escape in the first place and for not having a dog license or up-to-date vaccinations.

Several people also have attempted to contact the Hetzers, offering them a replacement dog or puppy.

Residents on one side say it's unsafe, others say it's about security
Posted on: 05/31/2008

(05/27/08)--The dividing lines continues to be drawn over a fence in a Genesee County neighborhood.

Some residents who live near the fence along Joyner Street near the Flint city and township border call it a hazard, while other say it's brought a sense of security.

The fence has been source of controversy. Residents near the Hunter's Ridge apartment complex say it has to go because of the barbed wire, and it blocks a public sidewalk.

Residents on Joyner Street say the fence has brought an extra sense of security.

(05/06/08)--Call it a proactive approach to crime solving. A Flint homeowner installed his own surveillance camera outside on his home.

He has already caught a crime on tape, but not on his property.

The crime happened across the street at his neighbor's house. Now police have the tape and are looking for the two men seen on it.

Rarely is something like a home invasion captured on camera. But on Flint's west side, nearly three weeks ago, one was.
